Biography of Saint St. Philip of Jesus

About the saint St. Philip of Jesus, biography and history, causes and current status.

ST. PHILIP OF JESUS (1571-1592)

Cause. Born in Mexico, St. Philip left the Franciscans to become a merchant. He later repented and rejoined the order in the Philippines. He volunteered for missionary work in Japan and was martyred at Nagasaki.

Devil's Advocate. He left the order and the Kingdom of God to seek riches. While his repentance was strong, and his martyrdom tragic (he was crucified), this indiscretion cannot be overlooked.

Nomination. The Franciscans were his main promoters.

Present Stage. He was canonized in 1862, and has become the patron saint of Mexico City.
