Buying and Selling Collectibles: Antique Locks

About the hobby of collecting, buying, and selling old and used items for fun and profit, in this case antique locks.

Locks. All locks made before 1900 have value to collectors, if the original key is present and the lock is in working order. Most in demand are unusual or bizarre specimens: very large padlocks and those with decorative shapes. They can bring as much as $600--for Madrid-made "inquisition locks" of the 16th century. Keys can be valuable even without locks; ornamental French and Italian keys of the 1700s and 1800s fetch up to $40.
