Dictionary of Sex Related Terms
Taboo--something which is forbidden and is considered too disturbing even to talk about. Some sexual acts, such as genital kissing and intercourse during menstruation, are losing their status as taboos, while others, such as incest, are still disapproved of by society.
Tampon--a roll of cotton or other material which is inserted into the vagina to absorb the menstrual flow.
Testicles--the 2 male sex glands which produce sex hormones and sperm cells. The male equivalent of a woman's ovaries, they are contained within the scrotum.
Transsexual--a person whose sex is uncertain or who considers himself or herself as belonging to the opposite sex. Some of these people have undergone sex-change operations.
Transvestite--a person who enjoys wearing the clothes of the opposite sex. A transvestite is not necessarily a homosexual.
Urethra--the canal through which urine is released. In men it runs from the bladder through the penis and is also used to carry semen out of the body. In women, the outside opening of the urethra is located between the clitoris and the opening of the vagina.
Uterus--a hollow, thick-walled muscular organ within the female body. It is located at the upper end of the vagina between the bladder and the rectum. It is here that children develop from conception to birth.
Vagina (Birth Canal)--the female sex organ extending from the vulva to the uterus. The vagina is located between the bladder, the urethra, and the rectum at a 45deg. angle to the ground when standing. It has 3 main functions: carrying the menstrual flow out of the body, receiving the penis during coitus, and allowing the baby to leave the mother's body during birth.
Vas Deferens--See: Spermatic Ducts.
Vasectomy--a sterility operation in which the male's spermatic ducts are closed off. A 100% effective means of birth control which does not affect sexual desire or ability.
Venereal Diseases--contagious diseases which are usually communicated during sexual intercourse. Ninety-nine percent of the cases of venereal disease are syphilis or gonorrhea.
Virgin--a person who has not had sexual intercourse.
Virginity--the state of being a virgin. The major problems experienced by virgins when making love for the 1st time are usually a result of high expectations, nervousness, overeagerness, and overemphasis on the event. Without these problems, 1st sex can be the dawning of a new world.
Voyeur--a person whose only sexual role is that of watching others engage in sexual intercourse. Also known as a Peeping Tom. Many people enjoy watching a couple engaged in lovemaking, but most people would prefer to be so engaged themselves.
Vulva--the external female genitals consisting of the outer lips, the inner lips, the clitoris, and the opening of the urethra. Also, the opening between the external female genitals.
Wet Dream--an erotic dream leading to orgasm and nocturnal emission. Very common in boys approaching adolescence but lessening in frequency when they begin having sex with partners. Women also experience erotic dreams which may culminate in nocturnal orgasm.
Whore--a derogatory term for a female prostitute. Men who hate or are afraid of women, or feel inadequate about their own sexuality, often use the word for sexy or sensual women who are not actual prostitutes.
Withdrawal--See: Coitus Interruptus.
Zoophilia--erotic attraction to animals.
