Famous Suicides Marilyn Monroe

About the famous American actress and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe, biography and history of the suicide.

MARILYN MONROE (1926-1962)

Life: American actress and sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe appeared in such films as All About Eve, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire, Some Like It Hot, and The Misfits. Born in Los Angeles, her childhood and adolescent years were marked by confusion and discord. Her mother, suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, was unable to care for her, and Marilyn Monroe's family life was limited to what was provided by the different foster families with whom she stayed. At one time, she lived in an orphanage. Her career began as a pinup model, then advanced to bit parts in films. Eventually, she became celebrated as a dramatic actress and comedienne.

Death: After a Hollywood studio broke her contract, Marilyn withdrew from public life to reassess her career as well as her private life. An unhappy love affair and possible pregnancy added to the problems she already faced. Her dependency on barbiturates grew, and it was an overdose of these which finally claimed her life. Some question whether or not her death was a suicide, but a "psychological autopsy" done in Los Angeles revealed "not only her suicidal state of mind prior to her death but also the fact that she had made several attempts at suicide previously."
