First Artificial Snow from a Natural Cloud

About the first artificial snow produced from a natural cloud in 1946.

Artificial Snow. "The 1st artificial snow from a natural cloud was produced November 13, 1946, by Vincent Joseph Schaefer of the General Electric Company who flew in an airplane over Mt. Greylock, Mass. He dispensed small dry-ice pellets over a tract about 3 mi. long from a height of about 14,000'. Snow fell an estimated 3,000' but because of the dry condition of the atmosphere beneath the cloud, it evaporated before reaching the ground. Previously, he produced snow in a cold chamber on July 12, 1946."
