First Glass Dress in History

About the first dress made out of spun glass for George Cayven in 1893.


The 1st Glass Dress. In 1893, a dress of spun glass was made for Georgia Cayven from 12 yds. of glass cloth (at $25 a yard). The manufacturer was the E.D. Libbey Glass Company, Toledo, O., who exhibited it at the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, Ill. "The cloth was made into a dress for her, but was not practical for wearing purposes."
