1942 CARDINALS BEAT 1955 DODGERS

COMPUTER PARK--Johnny Hopp singled home Stan Musial with the winning run in the 8th inning as the 1942 St. Louis Cardinals defeated the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers, 3-2, in the 4th game of the computerized baseball tournament.

Hopp's game-winning hit came after Musial singled with 2 out and advanced to 3rd on Walker Cooper's double. Cooper had doubled in the 7th and scored the Cards 2nd run of the game on another Hopp single.

Cardinal righthander Mort Cooper went all the way for the victory, scattering 7 hits. Both Dodger runs were the result of homers. Roy Campanella belted one leading off the 4th and Gil Hodges connected with 2 down in the 8th.

The Cardinals posted their 1st run off loser Don Newcombe in the 6th when Terry Moore singled and scored on Enos Slaughter's double.

'61 N.Y. YANKS BEAT '69 N.Y. METS

COMPUTER PARK--The 1961 New York Yankees advanced to the finals of NBC's computer baseball tournament when they pushed across a run in the 9th inning to defeat the 1969 New York Mets, 2-1.

The Yankees scored the winning run after Yogi Berra opened the 9th with a single and was forced at 2nd by Bill Skowron. Skowron moved to 2nd on Clete Boyer's infield out and tallied on winning pitcher Whitey Ford's run-scoring single.

The Mets got on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning. Ron Swoboda singled, stole 2nd and came in on Jerry Grote's RBI single. The Yankees evened it on Roger Maris' leadoff homer in the 4th.

Ford went all the way to pick up his 2nd victory in the computer series. The Yankee lefthander allowed 8 hits, fanned 4 and walked 2. Tom Seaver permitted only 6 hits but absorbed the loss.

COMPUTER PARK--The 1927 Yankees, powered along on a 2-homer salvo by Babe Ruth, scored 3 runs in the 8th inning to eliminate the 1942 St. Louis Cardinals, 6-4, in the last game of the computerized semifinal round. The victory earned the 1927 Yanks the right to meet the 1961 Yankees in the title game.

Ruth's pair of home runs accounted for 3 runs, all at the expense of Mort Cooper, the starting and losing pitcher for the 1942 Red-birds. The Babe smacked a 2-run homer in the 5th and then came through again at long range with a solo clout leading off the 8th.

Enos Slaughter and Stan Musial, who each stroked 3 hits, paced the 8-hit attack for the Cardinals off winning pitcher Waite Hoyt. It was the 2nd tournament triumph for Hoyt.

COMPUTER PARK--Lou Gehrig's 2-out home run off Whitey Ford in the 10th inning earned the 1927 New York Yankees a 5-3 victory over the 1961 New York Yankees to win the final round of NBC's Computer Baseball Tournament.

Gehrig's 2-run blast broke up-a 3-3 pitching duel between Ford and Hall-of-Fame righthander Waite Hoyt.

Roger Maris, who smacked a record 61 homers in 1961, hit 2 home runs off Hoyt to account for 2 of the 1961 Yankees' 3 runs. Babe Ruth connected for a 2-run homer for the 1927 Yankees in the 1st inning.
