Growing a Food Garden in the City Chickens and Rabbits

About how to grow your own food garden in the city and for the more adventurous how to raise chickens and rabbits for eggs or meat.

CHICKENS AND RABBITS

The city dweller does not have to subsist on totally vegetarian fare. Small animals can be raised in screened-in cages on a roof or in a backyard. Chickens can be raised for both meat and eggs, and can subsist on a diet of garden insects and the discarded outside leaves of leafy vegetables. Rabbits can also be raised for their meat. They reproduce very rapidly and--like chickens--love Swiss chard. If you wish to raise animals for meat, you will have to learn to butcher them, but this is perhaps the only honest way to be a carnivore.
