History of Sex Surveys: Kinsey Report on Male Sexual Behavior Part 6 More Findings

About the famous Kinsey Report, a survey done by Dr. Alfred Kinsey on all aspects of sex, sexual history, marriage and more, findings on prostitution, homosexuality, and animals.

Survey: SEXUAL BEHAVIOR IN THE HUMAN MALE

Heterosexual Prostitution

"In the U.S., the number of males who go to prostitutes is not so high as is generally believed, and the frequencies with which they go are very much lower than almost anyone has realized. . . . We find that about 69% of the total white male population ultimately has some experience with prostitutes at least once."

Homosexuality

Rather than focusing on homosexual people or homosexuality as a separate entity, Kinsey concentrated on homosexual behavior and reactions, and stressed the infinite gradations between complete homosexuality and complete heterosexuality. He pointed out that "The homosexual has been a significant part of human sexual activity ever since the dawn of history, primarily because it is an expression of capacities that are basic in the human animal. There are those who will contend that the immorality of homosexual behavior calls for its suppression. . . . Some have demanded that homosexuality be completely eliminated from society by a concentrated attack upon it. . . . The evidence indicates that at least 1/3 of the male population would have to be isolated from the rest of the community, if all those with any homosexual capacities were to be so treated. . . . At least 13% of the male population would have to be institutionalized and isolated, if all persons who were predominately homosexual were handled in that way."

Thirteen percent reported having been predominantly homosexual in behavior and responses for at least a 3-year period in their lives. An additional 5% reported that during at least a part of their lives, homosexual and heterosexual contacts and arousals were about equally balanced. Kinsey's figures indicated that 37% of all males experience at least one homosexual experience to the point of orgasm at some time, and that only 50% of the male population reach old age with neither a homosexual orgasm nor a homosexual arousal.

Animal Contacts

According to Kinsey, "The forces which bring individuals of the same species together in sexual relations may sometimes serve to bring individuals of different species together in the same types of sexual relations."

In the total male population, only about 8% had ever had sexual experience with animals; but among rural males of grade school level, the figure was 15%; among rural males of high school level, 20%; and in rural males of the college level, 27% had had "some animal experience to the point of orgasm." Frequencies of animal contacts varied from once or twice in a lifetime to several times a week over a period of years.
