About peas, information on the legumes, uses and production, history and location in the world.
Although usually classified with other vegetables, peas are a member of the legume family. When they are dried and split for soups, etc., it is easier to think of them as pulses. Half a cup of cooked split peas provides 8 gm. of protein, but as in the case of the other legumes, this is not complete protein. Split pea soup is deservedly well known. Next time you make it, try adding 2 tsp. of caraway or dill seeds for variation.
