About Luxembourg, information, history size, location, population, people, culture, and government.
Size--999 sq. mi. (2,586 sq. km.). Population--350,000.
Located in northwestern Europe between France, Belgium, and Germany, Luxembourg was passed around among various European powers until it was granted autonomy by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. It was overrun and annexed by Germany during W.W. II and after the war it renounced its neutrality by joining NATO. The national motto is Mir woelle bleiwe wat mir sin--"We want to remain what we are." A strong small-town atmosphere is maintained throughout the country as a matter of government policy. There are more Luxembourgers in Chicago than in Luxembourg City.
