Location-Runs along the southeast African coast, sharing borders with Tanzania in the north, with Malawi, Zambia, and Rhodesia to the west, and with the Republic of South Africa and Swaziland in the southwest. To the east is the Indian Ocean.
How Created-The British and Portuguese arbitrarily set the frontiers of their spheres of influence here in 1891. After W. W. I, Mozambique got the Kionga triangle from German Tanganyika.
Size-303,075 sq. mi. (784,961 sq. km.).
Population-9 million: African (mostly Bantu), 97.8%; white, 1.5%; other, 0.7%. 69.6% Animist, 15.3% Christian, 12.5% Muslim, 2.6% other.
