Behind the Oscar

The Academy was now the same age as Jack Benny. Barely 3 hours before the presentations, a strike of television technicians had been settled, so that the show could go on. Again a great number of the major acting winners failed to show. Elizabeth Taylor was informed of her win in London, but she was so angered by the fact that Richard Burton hadn't won that she refused to hold a press conference until 2 weeks later.
