Behind the Oscar

Barbra Streisand tied with Katharine Hepburn this year, the 1st time 2 people got exactly the same number of votes. Some people griped over Paul Newman's slight by the Academy. Newman, in his 1st directorial effort, had been honored by the New York Film Critics as best director of the year, but he didn't even get nominated by the members of the Academy.
