President Abraham Lincoln: Lincoln the Communist?

Some quotes and quotations from President of the United States Abraham Lincoln that could have you seeing a bit of red.

LINCOLN THE COMMUNIST

All political parties have claimed Lincoln as their property, and the American Communist party has been no exception. During the '3os and '4os the CP began holding Lincoln-Lenin rallies in February. This policy may not seem so absurd when one considers some of Lincoln's actual public statements:

"The strongest bond of human sympathy, outside of the family relation, should be one uniting all working people, of all nations, and tongues, and kindreds."

"Inasmuch as good things are produced by labor, it follows that all such things of right belong to those whose labor has produced them. But it has so happened, in all ages of the world, that some have labored and others have without labor enjoyed a large proportion of the fruits. This is wrong and should not continue. To secure to each laborer the whole product of his labor, or as nearly as possible, is a worthy object of any good government."

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor and could never have existed if labor had not 1st existed."

"The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but cannot do for themselves in their separate and individual capacities."
