About Joseph Atterley who in 1827 published A Voyage to the Moon one of the first U.S. astronaut stories.

--1827. Joseph Atterley (pseud. of George Tucker) published one of the 1st U.S. cosmonaut stories, simply (if unoriginally) entitled A Voyage to the Moon. The space "car" was made of an anti-gravitational metal. The year before Professor Tucker published the book, one of his students at the University of Virginia was Edgar Allan Poe.
