Science Fiction History: 1884 John Jacob Astor Writes Sci-fi

About the 1885 sci-fi novel A Journey in Other Worlds by John Jacob Astor.

--1894. John Jacob Astor, descendant of the John Jacob Astor (perhaps the 1st American millionaire), published A Journey in Other Worlds--the other worlds being Jupiter, Saturn, and the asteroid Cassandra. Astor had the inspiration of introducing the giant prehistoric creatures of the early days of earth, despite the circumstance that they could not exist where he introduced them--a circumstance which did not deter subsequent authors from introducing them into planets equally inhospitable. Many a writer, and many a reader, dearly loves a dinosaur.
