Science Fiction History: 1909 Serviss and A Columbus of Space

About the 1909 sci-fi novel A Columbus of Space by Garret P. Serviss.

--1909. Garret P. Serviss, now all but forgotten but long a respected name in science fiction, published A Columbus of Space with the planet Venus as the new world. Edmund Stonewall's spaceship, which took him there, ran by a sort of atomic power. Venus had no canals, but its clouded surface left speculative minds free to imagine what lay beneath the clouds; in this case, everything--swamps, ape-men, a villainous high priest, telepathy, a beautiful native queen, prehistoric monsters, and airplanes.
