--When Philadelphia carpenters went on strike, they formed a cooperative and offered their services for 25% less than their employers had charged.

--Jeremy Belknap, Boston clergyman, founded the Massachusetts Historical Society for the purpose of collecting important historical documents.

Mar. First Internal Revenue law passed by Congress.

Mar. 4 Vermont admitted to the Union, becoming the 14th State.

Dec. 15 The Bill of Rights became a part of the Constitution. Developed from ideas set forth in the Bible and in ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, the 1st 10 Amendments guaranteed basic freedoms and rights to the people.
