About the United States history in 1799, America's problems with France resolved, George Washington dies.

-Congress suspended all trade with France and her colonies. The frigate Constellation captured French Insurgente.

Mar. President Adams appointed William Varns Murray as the new Minister to France. The latter headed the peace commission which ended hostilities with France.

Oct. 30 William Barch became the 1st navy chaplain.

Dec. 14 George Washington died of a severe throat infection, following a cold caught while riding around his farm in the rain and snow. An Alexandria, Va., newspaper published in its entirety the report submitted by the attending physicians.
