Discovered by Eugene Anatole Demarcay of France in 1896. Although the production of blue and green tones for color TV was an easy task, researchers found it difficult to create red. Finally, in 1964, the General Telephone and Electronics Corporation discovered that a combination of europium and yttrium would do the trick.
