RUPERT BROOKE, English soldier-poet, 1887-1915

Where Buried: Island of Skyros in the Aegean Sea.

Gravestone: A cairn of pink and white marble stones, with a cross at both ends of grave.

Epitaph: On the larger of the two crosses: "Here Lies the Servant of God Sub-Lieutenant in the English Navy Who Died for the Deliverance of Constantinople from the Turks."

Amen: In 1916 the rock cairn and crosses were replaced with a marble slab.
