JOHN DONNE, English poet, clergyman, died 1631

Last Will: Left Pound 500 each to his aged mother and his unmarried children, plus money for the local poor. His early poem "The Will" made bequests only to "such as had too much before." Hence, he left his "tongue to Fame," and "To women or the sea" his tears. His constancy, he left to the planets. His "ingenuity and openness, to Jesuits," and his money "to a Capuchin. . . ."
