WHERE THERE'S A WILL

GUSTAVE FLAUBERT, French author, died 1880

Last Will: Having sacrificed most of his money to support the business activities of his niece's husband, an inept lumber merchant, Flaubert left little except his literary property: copyrights, manuscripts, and letters. These went to the aforementioned niece, Caroline Hamard. He bequeathed the desk on which he wrote his novels to his longtime platonic confidante, Madame Roger des Genettes.
