SIMON BOLIVAR, Venezuelan revolutionary leader, died 1830

Last Will: A week before his death, the South American liberator bequeathed the bulk of his fortune to his sisters and their children. A gold medal awarded him by Bolivia, his namesake nation, was deeded back "to that country as promised, in token of the true affection which, to my very last moments, I shall have for that Republic." And 8,000 pesos went to "my faithful steward Jose Palacios in consideration of his ever faithful services." Bolivar also expressed the wish for burial in his native Caracas, where he lies today in the Panteon Nacional.
