Famous Last Will and Testament Showman Billy Rose

About the last will and testament of famous American showman Billy Rose.

WHERE THERE'S A WILL

BILLY ROSE, U.S. showman, died 1966

Last Will: Most of his $30 million estate went to the Billy Rose Foundation, a charity, but there were ample bequests to ex-wives and sisters. Contending that the foundation was derelict, Rose's two sisters sued to have themselves declared sole heirs. The will was upheld. Meanwhile, awaiting the outcome of wrangling over the cost of his mausoleum, Rose's body lay in a temporary vault for almost two years. The Israeli National Museum denied him a burial site among the futuristic sculpture he had donated, and the executors refused to let his sisters use the fortune set aside for his burial to inter him elsewhere. The final compromise-a $60,000 mausoleum in a huge plot at New York's Westchester Hills Cemetery-allowed Rose to rest at last in only a little less lavish peace than he had planned.
