Artist, he is a disciple of the yogi Swami Satchidananda.

From: Judaism.

To: Hinduism (yogic).

Why: In order to escape Nazi persecution, Max fled with his family from Berlin to Shanghai, where he went to English schools and spent time with Buddhist monks. The painting of these monks influenced his artistry, and he became interested in an easily assimilated Eastern philosophy. While working on the film Chappaqua in Paris, he met Swami Satchidananda and became a follower.
