UNCENSORED HIGHLIGHTS IN THE HISTORY OF SEX

1977 A female University of Missouri student underwent the first female-to-male transsexual operation in history. She was provided with a penis that could have an erection. Reported The New York Times: "The doctors said the penis contained a tiny hydraulic system that permitted a fluid to be pumped from a reservoir in the abdomen into the penis to cause erection. Investigation shows that the penis-erection device has been used in more than 200 operations in the country to date, most performed by the device's inventor, Dr. F. Brantley Scott, a urologist affiliated with the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston."

1977 A French boss known only as "Mr. D." unexpectedly returned home to find his wife in bed with one of his employees, identified as "Robert C." The employee was immediately fired, but a local arbitration board in Laon, north of Paris, held that the employee was owed $800 because he hadn't been given proper notice and $500 in severance pay. However, Mr. D. took the case to an appeals court which reversed the decision and ruled that Robert C. was justly fired and should collect nothing because he "was fooling around on company time." The favorable ruling for the French boss was in part due to the fact that when Mr. D. surprised the amorous couple he was not alone, but was accompanied by the mayor of Laon.

1977 On Dec. 13 the New Jersey Supreme Court, in a 5-2 vote, overturned a state law that forbid sexual intercourse between any man and an unmarried woman. According to the judges, the law violated "the zone of privacy protecting individuals from an unwarranted governmental intrusion into matters of intimate personal and family concern." Those who wanted to keep the law contended that the statute was needed as a protection against venereal disease, but the court rejected that argument.

1978 "The myth of the great Latin lover," was the subject of a scientific survey by university professor Giampaolo Fabris and British sociologist Rowena Davis. After 4,000 interviews done over a two-year period, the researchers came up with some surprising findings. Among them: 68% of Italian couples make love in the traditional (missionary) position only; approximately 3 million have intercourse in their automobiles since they have nowhere else to go; the majority of Italian couples have never experimented with oral sex. The survey pointed a critical finger at the Italian male: "He is invariably egoistic, selfish, often violent, and only seeking self-satisfaction. So is it surprising his partner does not look forward to going to bed?"
