Invention: Flexible straw
Inventor: Joseph B. Friedman, U.S.
How Invented: The first drinking tubes were made of glass. Then came artificial straws made of paraffined manila paper, which cracked easily and were generally unclean. Later, watching his young daughter become frustrated as her soda straw bent over the rim of her glass, Joseph B. Friedman of Santa Monica decided to do something about it. He thought a corrugated section in the straw would produce a better drinking aid. He also invented a straw which would could be used with hot liquids as well as cold. His Flex-Straw is made from plastic and is disposable. It bends to any angle and fascinates kids. They enjoy drinking milk, fruit juice, even medicine through it.
