RANGE AND OVEN

Problem: Single surface unit does not heat.

1. Cause: Loose connection or broken wire to unit.

Remedy: Cut all power to range by removing fuse or switching circuit breaker to OFF position. Lift up heating element and reflector to see if one of the wires is broken at terminal screws on surface unit. If it is, clean ends of wire with fine sandpaper--not moist steel wool (this dampens wire, which can then cause a short circuit when switched on). Connect securely to terminal screw. If the wire is broken anyplace except at the terminal screw, call a serviceman.

Problem: Convenience outlet does not supply power.

1. Cause: Range fuse or circuit breaker has blown or plug-type fuse has worked loose.

Remedy: Replace range fuse, reset circuit breaker, or check plug-type fuse to be sure it is secure. Check manufacturer's instructions for exact location of range fuse or circuit breaker.

Problem: Oven unit won't heat.

1. Cause: Timer set on OFF or AUTOMATIC position and/or selector switch set in wrong position.

Remedy: Reset timer to MANUAL position and/or set selector to BAKE.

2. Cause: Terminals of removable heating unit are not pushed firmly into receptacle and/or they are dirty.

Remedy: Cut all power to range by removing fuse or switching circuit breaker to OFF position. Make sure terminals are clean and fit securely into receptacle at back of oven.

Problem: Food overcooks in oven.

1. Cause: Oven temperature too high.

Remedy: Follow manufacturer's directions for proper temperature setting.

2. Cause: Oven thermostat out of adjustment.

Remedy: Call serviceman to make an adjustment or replace with new thermostat if necessary.

3. Cause: Oven door not tightly closed.

Remedy: Call serviceman to make adjustment.

4. Cause: Incorrect type or size pans, incorrect pan placement in oven, overcrowded oven.

Remedy: Follow manufacturer's directions for proper type, size, placement, and number of pans to use.

Problem: Food undercooks in oven.

1. Cause: Oven door opened too often while cooking.

Remedy: Do not open door until cooking time is up.

2. Cause: Oven thermostat out of adjustment.

Remedy: Call serviceman to make an adjustment or replace with new thermostat if necessary.

3. Cause: Improper pan for recipe needs.

Remedy: Follow reliable recipe. Use size and type pan specified in recipe.

Problem: Food browns or bakes unevenly.

1. Cause: Range not level.

Remedy: Check position of range with a level. If not perfectly level, adjust leveling screws on base of range. If there are no leveling screws, insert thin strips of wood under base to bring unit level.

2. Cause: Incorrect placement of pans in oven.

Remedy: Allow at least 1 in. between cake pans and 1 in. between pans and sides of oven.
