World History 1808

About the history of the world in 1808, the first typewriter was built, Napoleon invades Spain.



The first crude typewriter was built for blind countess Carolina Fantoni in Reggio Emilia, Italy, by Pellegrine Turri. The countess's typewritten letters are preserved in the Reggio archives.

June 15 Napoleon, having invaded Spain, placed his brother Joseph on the throne, giving the kingdom of Naples to his brother-in-law Murat. The Spanish would not accept Joseph; insurrections drove him twice from Madrid and forced him to leave Spain in 1813. The Spanish invasion and Joseph's rejection by the Spanish people ignited the Latin American independence movement.
