TWO CENTURIES OF WORLD HISTORY: 1778-1978
Oct. 8 Hairdresser Karl Ludwig Nessler introduced the permanent wave in a demonstration before fellow hairstylists at his salon in London.
Dec. 24 The first radio program was broadcast from Brant Rock, Mass. The premiere featured Prof. Reginald Aubrey Fessenden playing the violin, singing, and quoting the Scripture to an audience limited by atmospheric conditions to a 5-mi. radius.
Dec. 26 The first feature-length film, The Story of the Kelley Gang, produced in Australia, premiered at Athenaeum Hall, Melbourne.
