Worst Team (season): The Washington Capitals won 8 of 80 games in the 1974-1975 season, losing 67 and tying 5. The next season they won 11, lost 59, and tied 10. Said coach Tom McVie: "I'd rather find out that my wife was cheating on me than to have to keep losing like this. At least I could tell my wife to cut it out."

Worst Team (game): New York Rangers, Jan. 23, 1944. The Rangers were shut out 15-0 by the Detroit Red Wings, who set an NHL scoring record for a single game.
