About what the defeated Russians would have done if they had won the Russo-Japanese War.
WHAT 10 DEFEATED NATIONS PLANNED TO DO HAD THEY WON THE WAR
4. RUSSIA (Russo-Japanese War, 1904-1905)
By 1904 Nicholas II of Russia had decided to create a Far Eastern empire in Asia. Once the Russo-Japanese War was won, the Russians planned to annex China's immense Manchurian province and incorporate it as part of Siberia. The czar also intended to occupy Korea and eventually make it part of his empire. This would have involved the settlement of Russian and Cossack pioneers in Manchuria and Korea and the building of railroads to link the area with the rest of Russia. Then Russia would have exploited China's weakened political and economic condition and gradually annexed additional chunks of Chinese territory. Had it won the war, Russia, not Japan, would have been the major power in northern Asia in the first half of the 20th century.
