Weird and Unusual Collections Board Games
About a collector of board games, history and description of the collection.
Collector: Sid Sackson, New York, N.Y.
Childhood elicits memories of intriguing and challenging games such as Scrabble, Monopoly, and Parcheesi, among many others. Unfortunately, these games are slowly fading into the background as the fascination with electronic gadgetry brings us video games on home computers.
A traditionalist at heart, Sid Sackson has the largest and most extensive private collection of games in the world. The collection is limited (with very few exceptions) to games that can be played at a bridge table. It totals approximately 50,000 games; nearly half of them are playable, and the remainder are in the form of complete reproductions of equipment and rules. Three whole rooms of Sackson's home are piled from floor to ceiling with his collection. He also has a library of 1,000 game books in 13 languages and over 2,000 magazines.
Sackson has always loved games. He uses his collection as a reference library, inventing and selling his own games to well-known companies such as Milton Bradley and Parker Bros.
