ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES
Location: An eastern Caribbean island, between St. Lucia and Grenada, plus the northern Grenadine Islands. Size: 150 sq. mi. (388 sq. km.). Population: 118,000.
Who Really Rules: St. Vincent is governed by the conservative St. Vincent Labour party, which holds 11 of the 13 seats in the elected legislature. In December, 1979, Barbados sent troops to put down a rebellion allegedly inspired by Grenada's revolutionary government, but it was actually a protest by the Rastafarian sect. Barbados also fired the leader of St. Vincent's socialist opposition from his teaching position at the University of the West Indies.
